Longmire Road Church history
Because of the expanding need for an additional congregation of New Testament Christians in the greater Conroe area, the Memorial Church of Christ (later known as Longmire Road Church of Christ) met for the first time on February 3, 1974 in the Anderson Elementary School building.
In September, 1974, the congregation purchased property on Longmire Road and began meeting there. At the same time, because of anticipated growth, a building program was begun. The present building was completed and occupied in August 1976.
A.Chester Grimes served faithfully during those first critical months. It is his hard work and encouragement that the congregation owes its good beginning.
Ottis Hillburn began his labors with the congregation in November, 1974. and served until December, 1986.
Joe Goodspeed then began his labors with the congregation in January 1987 and served as the full time minister until June, 2002. Joe continued as Associate Minister until his retirement in December of 2008.
John Helbig began his ministry with the congregation in July 2002, and served the Lord with the congregation until June of 2024, when he moved to work with the Graeber Road church of Christ.
In the February of 2025 Morne Stephanus and his family joined the work at Longmire, and is begining the next chapter in our history of service to the Lord in Conroe.
